Dr. Mary Day, O.S.F.
is Associate Professor
of Music and Chairperson
of the Department of
Music at Briar Cliff
University where she
teaches voice, vocal
pedagogy, diction,
liturgy, and administers
the opera workshop
program. Dr. Day
holds degrees from Briar
Cliff University (BA in
voice) and the
University of Iowa (MA
and DMA in vocal
performance). She
has completed
postgraduate studies at
the American Institute
of Musical Studies in
Graz, Austria and the
University of Texas.
Included among her
former teachers and
coaches are Albert
Gammon, Harold Stark,
John Wustman, Robert
Evans, and Romanian
soprano Yolanda
Marcoulescou.
Dr. Day has
performed extensively in
recital, opera and
oratorio throughout the
Minneapolis and
Siouxland areas and been
featured as a soloist
with the Sioux City
Symphony Orchestra and
Sioux City Chamber Music
Association. She
frequently adjudicates
for Iowa High School
Music Association
contests and has
coordinated Briar
Cliff’s Pre-All-State
Choral Music Camp for
more than twenty years.
A dedicated member
of the Sioux City arts
community, Dr. Day has
served as a board member
for the Sioux City
Concert Course, Sioux
City Chamber Music
Association and the
Siouxland Youth
Symphony.
Currently an officer in
the Lewis and Clark
chapter of the National
Association of Teachers
of Singing (NATS), her
years of service in that
organization have
included multiple terms
as Governor and
President of the Iowa
chapter and national
board member.
