Robert Gibson
is Instructor of
Jazz and Director of the
Briar Cliff Jazz
Ensemble at Briar Cliff
University. In his
fifteenth year of
teaching in the Sioux
City Community Schools,
at Hoover Middle School
and North Middle School,
he previously taught for
nine years at Westwood
Junior-Senior High
School in Sloan. A
1981 graduate of
Morningside College, he
completed an MA at the
University of Iowa in
1993.
Mr. Gibson is in his
thirtieth season of
performing with the
Sioux City Symphony
Orchestra, the last
seventeen as principal
trumpet. A member
of the Sioux City
Municipal Band since
1979, he was appointed
Assistant Director in
2002. He is also a
member of the Sioux City
Rockestra and
founder/director of the
Sioux City Jazz
Orchestra. In
demand as a trumpet
soloist and band
clinician, he is
affiliated with the C.G.
Conn Corporation and has
performed with The
Temptations,
Frankie Valli and the
Four Seasons,
The Moody Blues,
Blood, Sweat and
Tears, and
Mannheim Streamroller.
Mr. Gibson is a member
of the Iowa Bandmasters
Association,
International Trumpet
Guild, International
Association of Jazz
Educators and served on
the executive committee
of the Iowa Jazz
Championships.
