Welcome to Briar Cliff's Environmental Science Web Site!

Global challenges, such as pollution, habitat destruction, and the loss of biological diversity, will only be solved by concerned individuals.  Respect for the natural world was among the defining values of St. Francis of Assisi.  As a college within the Franciscan tradition,  Briar Cliff has again demonstrated this commitment by recently initiating an Environmental Science program.

Briar Cliff is located near the north end of the Loess Hills, a unique landform still blessed with high-quality prairies.  We are especially fortunate to have the Sioux City Prairie, a 150-acre Nature Conservancy preserve, adjacent to our campus. Each June, members of the Briar Cliff community have opportunities to participate in the annual Loess Hills Prairie Seminar held just to our south in Monona County, Iowa.

I encourage you to experience Briar Cliff and our environs for yourself.  Please e-mail or phone our Admissions Office [ (800) 662-3303, extension 5200, or (712) 279-5200] to schedule a tour and an appointment with me and other faculty.  Contact us.  We would be glad to hear from you.
