PARTNERSHIP
Briar Cliff University Education Department and Crescent
Park Elementary School established a partnership in the 2004-2005
academic year. In this partnership, BCU students serve as tutors
and assist the elementary students in strengthening their reading and
math skills.
BCU student volunteers
completed over 735 hours of tutoring in the 2004-2005 academic year.
If you are interested in serving as a tutor, please
contact Sr. Kathy Knipper, OSF at
kathy.knipper@briarcliff.edu
or call her at 712-279-5596.
From a Crescent Park teacher:
“Working with the Briar Cliff students has
been very positive. They have been reliable, responsible about the tasks
given, hard working, willing to do what asked, and flexible when
schedules change. It has given first or second year students an
opportunity to see if this is really for them and reinforced the choice
for the upper class students.”
From a BCU
student: “I am gaining an insight of great admiration for what teachers
must do on a day to day basis in a classroom. Teachers need to possess
much more than a teaching degree and/or a desire to teach. They must
love their work and know that what they are doing makes a difference to a
great many children. This has been a good experience for me.”
From a BCU student: “This was an excellent chance for me to gain more
experience in a classroom. The thing that surprised me the most was how
close you get to the students.”
