Word: Inserting a Page Break
Updated 2009.09.14
·
Learn how to insert
page breaks in a Word document.
A page break is a command that
tells Word to stop putting text on the current page and to begin putting all subsequent
text on a new page. Make sure the Show/Hide
button
is pushed in so you can see the page break.
It is on the Home tab, in the Paragraph group. When the Show/Hide
button is pushed in, page breaks appear like this:

·
Place the cursor (insertion point) where you
want the new page to begin.
·
Then press <ctrl>
+ <Enter>
· Place the cursor (insertion point) where you want the new page to begin.
· Then click on the Insert tab.
· In the Pages group, click on the Page Break button.

Make sure the Show/Hide button
is pushed in so you can see the page break.
It is on the Home tab, in the Paragraph group.

Position the cursor to the left of the page break. It looks like this:
![]()
Press the delete key. The page break will be removed.
To see more of your document, you can tell Word to collapse (hide) the white space at the top and bottom of each page. Simply double-click on the border between the two pages. Your cursor will turn into a two-headed arrow when you are in the correct spot. NOTE: This appears to work some of the time in Word 2007 but not at other times. I haven't figured out the pattern yet. It will always hide the header and footer, but sometimes that is all that it hides, regardless of how much more white space there may be at the bottom of the page.
