PowerPoint 2007 Overview

Create a New Presentation:

·         From Scratch:            Office Button | New | Blank Presentation

·         From a template:        Office Button | New | Microsoft Office Online. Select a category.

Change Views

·          View | Normal

·          View | Slide Sorter

·          View | Notes Page

·          View | Slide Show

Create different types of slides

·         “Home” | “New slide”

·         Choose the slide layout that you want from the choices below

Change Slide Order

·         In Slide Sorter view , click and drag the slide from its current position to its new position. Can also be done from Normal view.

Delete Slides

·         On either the Outline tab  or the Slides tab , select (click) the slide you want to delete.

·         Press the “Delete” key on the keyboard

Change a Slide’s Layout

·         In Outline view or Slides view , display the slide you want to change in the main window.

·         Choose Home | Layout

·         Select (click) the desired layout

Apply a New Theme

·         PowerPoint comes with many predefined themes

·         Choose Design | Themes. Select the desired design from the choices in the menu list

Add content

·         Photos             Insert | Picture

·         ClipArt             Insert | ClipArt

·         WordArt           Insert | WordArt

·         Videos             Insert | Movie

·         Sounds            Insert | Sounds

Caution: If your sound file is more than 100K in size, you will need to select “Office Button” | “PowerPoint Options” | “Advanced” and in the “Link sounds with file size greater than” choose a size that is greater than the size of your sound file. If you do not do this, your sound will not be embedded in your PowerPoint file, and if you move the ppt file (or email it) the sound file will probably be lost.

Import Existing Content

·         Importing Data: you can copy (ctrl-c) and paste (ctrl-v) almost anything

Output and the Presentation

Navigation

·         Next slide:                        N, PgDn, è, ê, Enter, Space

·         Previous slide:                   P, PgUp, ç, é

·         Go to slide <n>:                <n>+Enter

·         Black:                              B

·         White:                              W

·         End slide show:                  Escape

·         Show navigation options:     F1

Draw on Your Slides

·         To draw on your slides during the presentation:

·         Right-click on the slide

·         Choose Pointer options | Pen

·         Draw by holding the left mouse button down

Jump to a Slide

·         To jump to any slide:

·         Right-click on the slide

·         Select Go | Slide Navigator

·         Select the slide you want to jump to

Modify the Slide Master

·         The “Slide Master” is a special slide that has formatting information that is applied to all of the slides in the document.

·         Choose View | Slide Master

·         Modify anything that you want to affect the entire presentation (fonts, bullets, background, etc.)

Output Options

·         Computer presentations

·         Audience handouts

·         Speaker notes

·         Choose Office Button | Print

·         Under “Print What”, choose “Notes Pages”

·         Under “Color/Grayscale” choose “Color” if you are printing on a color printer, choose “Grayscale” if you are printing on a black and white printer.

·         Create presentations on the World Wide Web

·         You don’t have to be an HTML wizard. All you have to know is one menu command:

·         Office Button | Save as. Choose “Web Page” as the file type

·         Choose the web address where you want to save your presentation (e.g. http://cis.briarcliff.edu/yourname )

·         Overhead transparencies

·         35mm slides
