Excel File commands

 

Objectives

 

Using Excel help (F1):

In the Search for box, type Open file and press the Enter key.

In the Search Results list, click on Open a file, and read the topic.

 

In the Search for box, type Open workbook and press the Enter key.

In the Search Results list, click on Create a new workbook, and read the topic.

 

In the Search for box, type Save workbook and press the Enter key.

In the Search Results list, click on Save a file, and read the topic.

Creating, opening, saving, closing

To achieve this result:

Do this:

Create a new workbook:

Choose "File" | "New", or type <Ctrl>+N

Open an existing workbook:

Choose "File" | "Open", or type <Ctrl>+O

Save a workbook for the first time :

Choose "File" | "Save" – you will be prompted to give a file name and location

Save a workbook that has been saved previously

Choose "File" | "Save" – Excel will save the file with its existing name (writing over the existing version of the file)

Save a workbook with a different name or in a different location:

Choose "File" | "save As"

Close a workbook (without saving):

Choose "File" | "Close"

Email a workbook

Choose "File" | "Send to" | "Mail recipient (as Attachment)

Exit (quit) Excel:

Choose "File" | "eXit"
