I have been at Briar Cliff College since the fall of 1988. Courses which I teach include: Introduction to microbiology (designed primarily for nursing students), principles of microbiology (designed for biology majors), genetics, nutrition, molecular and cellular biology, human biology, and a variety of one credit courses. The one credit courses include scientific writing and research, advanced microbiology, virology, and I supervise internships. The internships are valuable experience for students and include the chance to observe and work in physical therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, physicians offices, trauma center, industrial labs, medical labs, water and waste water labs, athletic training, as well as variety of other professions. Briar Cliff has an intensive one week class format called Fast Forward, I taught a new course entitled Nutrition for Life which was geared towards nonscience students interested in nutrition, and I am developing a new course Forensic Biology, which is to acquaint nonscience majors with techniques, primarily genetic techniques, involved in solving crimes.
Other activities which I am involved include advising the Briar Cliff Science Club, serving as a resource person for science fair projects, judging science fairs, resident scientist for Chautauqua Inservice workshop for improving teaching of science. Also, I am a strong supporter of women's athletics at Briar Cliff.
Activities which in enjoy away from campus include photography, observing wildlife, a housefull of cats, and living on an acreage.
