The Human Resource Profession:

 The term human resource management (HRM) goes beyond the traditional concept of personnel, or the hiring, firing and compensation of employees.  Today’s HR managers are becoming strategic business partners in their organizations.  Successful business leaders understand that employees represent an important resource to any organization and maintaining a productive, motivated workforce is essential to achieving organizational effectiveness.

          Commonly accepted responsibilities include:

·        Compensation and Benefits

·        Employee and Labor Relations

·        Employment, Recruiting, and Placement

·        Workplace Diversity

·        Health, Safety, and Security

·        Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)

·        Human Resource Research

·        Training and Development

 

The Society:

The Society of Human Resource Management was founded in 1948 and is now the world’s largest human resource management association.  Its vision is to the global voice of the HR profession.
