Merit Award Program

The annual Merit Award Program recognizes outstanding chapters for excellence in programming and service in 4 broad areas:

· Professional operation of the chapter

· Professional development of members

· Support of the profession

· Partnership with SHRM

For our Chapter the Merit Award will:

	Be used as a tool for planning activities throughout the year
	Be a way to review and evaluate the chapter’s progress towards its goals
	Be an opportunity for National Recognition
	Be an opportunity to share what we have learned
	Be an opportunity to recognize Briar Cliff University
	Give us the satisfaction of doing our best

How are we going to get the Merit Award?

First things First (the OPERATION):

1. The MBO statement
2. Officers
3. Chapter Newsletter
4. Student chapter Web Page

Next We Need DEVELOPMENT:

1. Programs

1. Directly related to the HR field
2. Topic and Speakers

2. Sponsor (in whole or in parts) a workshop, seminar, or conference
3. Attend SHRM local/state/area sponsored seminar or workshop

1. at least 2 members

4. Internship Program
5. Company Visits
6. Mentor Program
7. Community Service Project

1. at least 3 chapter members must participate

8. Chapter Resume Book
9. Chapter Meetings

Then We Need to SUPPORT the Profession:

1. Chapter Research Surveys and Projects
2. Chapter members who have or will sit for HRCI exam
3. Active Involvement of Chapter Members in other organizations

1. SIFE, Ethnic Relations Club, Accounting Club

4. Legislative Activity
5. Chapter Contribution to SHRM Foundation
6. Contribution to a Scholarship
7. Host a job fair
