Chargers perform well at the John Dalton Invite in South Dakota

The Chargers have done well so far this year in the indoor track meets and look to continue tht trend as they went to the University of South Dakota for the John Dalton invite.


Erik Lindsay and Sam Acheampong did well in the 200m as they both placed 5th and 6th with the same time of 22.91 seconds. Lindsay won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.24 seconds. Caleb Young came in 6th in the event.
Acheampong cruised by in the 60m dash in 6.87 as he continues to roll in his favorite event. Acheampong said this could be the year for the Briar Cliff track team.


“I think last year was good, but this year will be better,” said Acheampong. “So far indoor has gone well, but it’s only the beginning. We still have outdoor.”
Acheampong has done well in his favorite events but knows he could better.
“I feel really blessed this year in my events, and I feel I can be even faster with the help of my teammates and coaches.”


Lindsay was also on the 4X400m relay team as Thomas Hunt, Brandon Henry, and Luke Sachau all placed fourth.


Off the track, Dave Thomas and Caleb Young placed 5th and 6th in the triple jump. Thomas placed ninth in the long jump as while teammate Bryce Harshman placed eighth. The men’s team had 13 top 10 finishes and look to keep on rolling during indoor track season.


On the women’s side, the women finished second in the 4X800m relay. Cece Vallejo, Anna Wolverton, Erin Gerdes, and Kat VonRumpf were the participants in the race. The 4X400 team placed sixth with the team of Katie Beldt, Audrey Cooley, Kaitlyn McCarville and Jill Hoogeveen.


On the field, Kristy Schaaf and Mollie O’Mara finished sixth and seventh in the high jump. Sarah Wieseler was seventh in the shot put, Elizabeth Benjamin finished tenth in the triple jump, and Ashley Sparks was eighth in the weight throw as the women performed well off the track.
