  BC Baseball team finishes 12th in conference

BC Softball team falls short of the postseason tournament

The Briar Cliff baseball team won two out of 12 games this past week.


The Chargers defeated Morningside College on Saturday, 14-4.


Some key players were right fielder Lincoln Dunham who had a run, two hits and two RBIs. Also, designated hitter Mitch Kurth had three runs and a hit. Short stop Andrew Benton had two runs and two hits as well.


Nathan Olson pitched all seven innings giving up four hits.


The second game in the double header did not turn out like the first. The Chargers took a loss, 8-4. The four runs for BC were scored by center fielder Jeremy Majeres, Dunham and third baseman Jacob Olivas. Andy Keane pitched for three innings and two outs during the game and gave up six hits and five runs. Seth Thomas pitched one inning, giving up three hits and a run.


Briar Cliff beat Northwestern last Thursday, 16-2. They were led by left fielder Brendon Opsahl who had three runs and three hits and Majeres who had three runs and one RBI. Pitcher Craig Harris allowed three hits the entire game.


“It was a great win,” said Olivas, junior mass communications and graphic design double major. “We finally came out and played like we really can as a team, we showed our true potential. We played a team that was higher than us in the conference and did very well, especially coming off of a 10 game losing streak.”


Briar Cliff lost 4-10 in game two against the Red Raiders. During game two, Briar Cliff was led by Dunham who scored a run, had a hit, and an RBI. Garret Linhardt pitched four innings and two outs of another inning for game two giving up four hits and six runs.


Thomas pitched two innings and one out and gave up a hit and a run.
Briar Cliff had their 10th consecutive loss last Tuesday against Bellevue University at Bellevue with a score of 2-12.


Briar Cliff’s runs were scored by right fielder Dunham and left fielder Matt Gonzales. They were hit in by first baseman David Kowal and second baseman John Elliot.


Pitchers were Tom Alessio who pitched two innings and two outs. Nick Hegge pitched one inning and one out. Justin Green, Linhardt and Harris all pitched an inning.


The Charger baseball team finished 13-39 on the season. Their 7-17 conference record put them at 12th in the conference.
