BC Softball team falls short of the postseason tournament

BC Baseball team finishes 12th in conference

The Briar Cliff softball team suffered a season-ending sweep when they dropped two games at Midland Lutheran on Saturday.
The Warriors shut out the Chargers, 1-0 and 7-0.


BC split with Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday at Lincoln. The Prairie Wolves won game one, 5-4, while the Chargers got the win in game two with a score of 4-2.
Nebraska Wesleyan outhit the Chargers 12-10 in game one and capitalized scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings to get the win.


Camille Cruz got the win in game two, allowing five hits and two runs.
Reagon Anthony shined at the plate, going a perfect 4-4 with a double and an RBI.


Briar Cliff dropped a pair of conference games to the Dordt Defenders on Thursday in Sioux Center. Dordt took game one with a score of 3-1 and won the second, 10-1.


The Chargers mustered two hits in the first game, one from Tana Colt, who scored the only run, and one from Anthony.


Camille Cruz got the loss, going six innings giving up three runs on seven hits. The opposing pitcher Amber Soodsma went all seven innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out five.


BC managed one hit in game two from Jessica Horton who also scored the only run for the Blue and Gold.


Cruz started the game but went only two innings before being relieved by C.J Swenson. Cruz gave up four runs on three hits while Swenson gave up six runs on six hits.


The Lady Chargers earned two wins in the conference when they swept the Red Raiders of Northwestern last Wednesday in Orange City.


The Chargers won game one with a score of 1-0, and followed that with a 7-2 decision in the second game.


Game one was a pitchers duel as Briar Cliff had only three hits while the Red Raiders managed four. The big hit came by Jessica Horton who drove in Joanne Sweeney for the winning run in the fifth inning.
Cruz got the victory in game one. Cruz went seven innings, striking out 10 and walking six.


Northwestern stranded nine runners on base in game one.
The Charger offense was back in game two, scoring seven runs against the Red Raiders on ten hits.


Annessa Garcia and Shelby Schmidt each had multiple hits for the Chargers. Garcia was 2-4 with an RBR and two runs scored. Schmidt went 2-3 with an RBI. Reagon Anthony also had a pair of RBIs in game two.


Anthony started the game on the mound and earned the win for the Chargers. The senior from Carlisle, Iowa, went three and a third innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Cruz came in for the save and finished the game for Briar Cliff. Cruz struck out three while giving up no runs.


BC split a conference doubleheader against the Bulldogs of Concordia last Tuesday on Senior Day. Briar Cliff won the opener, 4-3, but lost the second, 10-2.
Freshman first baseman Bailey Huls broke the tie with a homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one that led to the Briar Cliff victory. Huls was 1-3 on the game.


Brianna Steiner also went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Shortstop Tana Colt was 1-3 with a run scored as well.


Cruz sealed the win in game one, going all seven innings giving up three runs on four hits while striking out nine.


In game two, the Chargers were outhit 10-5 by the Bulldogs. Colt was 2-4 with two runs on the game. Anthony went 1-3 with an RBI while Garcia went 1-2 with an RBI.


Cruz got the loss for Briar Cliff, going four and a third innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and striking out three.


The Chargers finished the season with a record of 17-20. Their conference record of 11-13 put them at ninth in the GPAC, just missing the playoffs.
