Briar Cliff requires a specific anti-virus software on all PCs that are connected to the campus network. The IT Center will load this software, at no charge, for any student who wishes to use the network while living on campus. Network access will not be provided until this anti-virus software has been installed.

It is highly recommended that network users have Windows XP Professional as an operating system. The IT Center can order and install Windows XP Professional for students living on campus who wish to use the network.

Looking To Buy a New Computer
As a Briar Cliff student, you can take advantage of a partnership with Dell to purchase a recommended, pre-configured PC from Dell that meets all of Briar Cliff's requirements with a BCU academic discount.

If you choose not to buy a new computer through Dell, we recommend printing off one of the PC configurations listed above and taking it with you to the dealer from whom you are going to purchase a PC.  If you want to purchase it directly from Dell, call (800) 289-3355 x-2166498 as this is the number for our sales representative, Timothy.

Already Have a Computer but Don't Know If It Meets the Requirements
You can contact the IT Center Help Desk at (712) 279-5401. They will assist you in finding out what you need to utilize the Briar Cliff network while living on campus. If you do need Windows XP Professional, the IT Center can install it for you when you bring your PC in to have Symantec Anti-Virus installed.
