Poverty Simulation

Monday, February 11

2:00 PM

Stark Student Center (Stage)

Briar Cliff students will role-play to get a better idea of what it is like to live in poverty.

Students go through the day-to-day steps of living in poverty. During the poverty simulation, students learn what it’s like to choose between buying groceries or paying bills, among other tough choices they’ll be forced to make with sparse financial resources to draw on.

The students will have roles as family members in poverty, an employment officer, a welfare office staffer, police officer, teacher, landlord, utility worker, grocer, food pantry clerk and money lender. Briar Cliff faculty and community volunteers will help staff the activity.
