Open House: Remembering Flight 232
Saturday, July 19
Join us as we mark the 25th anniversary of the United Flight 232 crash landing in Sioux City. This open house is part of an entire weekend of Flight 232 events designed to reflect on the crash, learn from the way Siouxlanders responded and to honor those we lost.
Twenty-five years ago, Briar Cliff sheltered survivors and their families as they recovered from crash. Saturday's open house will include tours of:
- Alverno Hall and Toller Hall: See model rooms like the ones used by survivors during that week.
- Vista Lounge: This served as the central gathering place for survivors and their families.
- Our Lady of Grace Chapel: The chapel was always full of survivors and family members, participating in numerous prayer services. Review The Book of Intentions, composed of scores of personal notes written during those days by survivors and the family members of passengers who were killed in the crash.
- Heelan Hall: This is the site of Meis Recital Hall, the location where all family meetings were held with medical personnel, United Airlines officials, the governor and other state officials.
The open house will last until noon. All Flight 232 events are free and open to the public. Learn more by visiting the Remembering Flight 232 website »
