Giving Shape to Your Faith
In the Franciscan tradition of service, caring and openness to all, Briar Cliff University emphasizes a quality education for its students, combining a broad intellectual background with career development. The University challenges its members to grow in self-awareness and in their relationships to others
and to God.

The Office of Campus Ministry focuses on the spiritual life of Briar Cliff students and seeks to integrate faith and action.

We offer spiritual growth through prayer and worship...

    • Mass celebrated daily on campus

    • Prayer groups/Bible study groups on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

    • RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) weekly for students who wish to join the Catholic Church or complete their initiation by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Campus Ministry hosts retreats to build community and promote a deeper understanding of the Christian faith...

    • Antioch Retreat - A student-led weekend retreat in October and March.

    • Busy Person’s Retreat - A retreat focused on developing a personal prayer life in January.

We also build a sense of community through local, national and international outreach...

    • Small group leadership at high school confirmation retreats

    • Community assistance in educational programs and in outreach to the poor

The Campus Ministry staff provides support during times of personal crisis, family illness and the death of loved ones.
Campus Ministry gives assistance with discernment for lifestyle choices.

Peace and justice outreach is accomplished through the Peace and Justice Committee and Gospel of Life. Combined, these groups address such issues as abortion, euthanasia, peace and nonviolence, hunger and homelessness, and care for the earth. Actions include prayer vigils, advocacy, and a 30 hour food fast.

Briar Cliff has active chapters of The Knights of Columbus, a spiritual leadership and service group for young Catholic men, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a spiritual leadership group for young Catholic women, which sponsor a variety of spiritual and social activities on campus.

BCCares, a component of Campus Ministry, coordinates all local service activities, such as tutoring in schools, conducting food drives, working in soup kitchens and assisting with other outreach projects. Larger on-campus events include a Senior Citizen Luncheon, Christmas Party for People with Disabilities and an Easter Egg Hunt.

The San Damiano Crucifix is a 12th Century Icon representing the living God. The Crucifix contains the story of the death, resurrection and ascension into glory. It expresses the total and universal Paschal Mystery of Christ. It invites us to a life of faith and action in the manner of Saint Francis and Saint Clare.
Prayer groups/Bible study groups meet on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 9 p.m.
BCU students work on water projects in rural Honduras each November.
We build a sense of community through outreach locally, nationally and internationally.
