BCU Music Professor Publishes Reviews
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dr. Sean
Burton, assistant professor of music, director of choral
activities and division chairperson of arts and humanities
at Briar Cliff University, recently published a book review
in the Music Educators Journal and a compact disc
review in the Choral Journal, both in September 2011. The periodicals are peer-reviewed publications of
international renown.
In his review of “Conversations
with Joseph Flummerfelt: Thoughts on Conducting, Music, and
Musicians” by Donald Nally (Scarecrow Press, 2010), Burton
states, “Flummerfelt’s erudite assertions consistently
reveal a sincere and unquenchable thirst for choral artistry
of the highest echelon.”
In his review of “Sweelinck:
Psaumes français and Canciones Sacrae,” performed by Capella
Amsterdam (Harmonia Mundi, 2009), Burton asserts, “The
flawless execution and sensitive interpretation of text in
all ten works featured on this disc represent the highest
possible standard among European professional choirs and
serves to demonstrate artistic and authoritative
historically informed performances of this literature.”
Dr. Burton joined the Briar Cliff
community in 2007 and concurrently serves as director of
music at Grace United Methodist Church and founding artistic
director of the Siouxland Choral Artists.
