BCU Director Honored in National Writing Competition
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Paula Damon,
director of marketing and communications at Briar Cliff
University and columnist for the
Vermillion (S.D.)
Plain Talk and the
Carroll (Iowa) Daily Times Herald,
recently received national recognition for her writing in the
2011 National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) Communications
Contest.
In the national competition, Damon
earned third place in the humorous category for her columns
titled "Is That You in Front of Me?" and "From the Office of the
Governor." Winners were announced at the NFPW Annual Convention,
Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
At the conference, Damon conducted a
writing workshop, a reading of her prizewinning articles and a
book signing of her collection of short non-fiction stories
titled “Look. Don’t Look.”
Previously, she has won first place in
NFPW, South Dakota and Iowa Press Women communication contests,
among many other awards in press women competitions.
At Briar Cliff University, Damon
oversees marketing communications, including media relations.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a
master’s degree in English, both from the University of South
Dakota, Vermillion. Her weekly column is titled “My Story. Your
Story.”
