Iraq Criminal Justice System Expert to Speak at Briar Cliff
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff
University’s criminal justice and legal studies departments will
host “The Rule of Law in Iraq’s Criminal Justice System,” a
presentation by criminal justice expert Forde Fairchild,
assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.
This free public event will begin at
7 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in the Saint Francis Room in
the Stark Student Center on campus.
In his presentation, Fairchild will
discuss his experiences working and living in Iraq after the
fall of former leader Saddam Hussein. He will compare the Iraqi
criminal justice system to America’s criminal justice system and
discuss how the Iraqi criminal justice system has evolved to
meet the challenges of counter-insurgency. When Fairchild lived
in Iraq, he worked for the United States Department of Justice
for over a year to help rebuild and stabilize the Iraqi criminal
justice system.
