Briar Cliff Students Devote Time to Help Hungry Families

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Students at Briar Cliff University will spend an entire day boxing food for hungry families in Honduras, beginning at 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, in the Saint Francis Center on campus.

During the event titled “Then Feed Just One,” students will take time between classes and other commitments to package non-perishable items, including rice, vitamins, chicken flavoring and dried vegetables.

“Then Feed Just One” is an outreach program that provides nutritious meals at low costs to communities in the U.S and internationally.

Based in Le Mars, Iowa, the outreach program is managed by Al Vonnahme, a 2010 Briar Cliff graduate. “The Franciscan value of living simply so others can simply live fits wonderfully with The Feed Just One program,” Vonnahme said. “These meals will save lives.”

The event is sponsored by Briar Cliff’s Student Government Association, Resident Hall Association, Choices, Knights of Columbus, Spanish Club and Nursing Student Association.

Briar Cliff University is a Catholic institution with an enrollment of more than 1,150 students from 29 states and 11 countries. Students are educated in the Franciscan tradition of excellence in the liberal arts and career preparation in an environment of care, compassion and service.
