Briar Cliff to Host 50 Fifth-Graders for Tours and Treats
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Fifty fifth-graders will
ascend Briar Cliff University’s hilltop campus for an afternoon
of tours and treats, beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28,
2010.
While at BCU, the Smith, Everett and Sacred
Heart students will take campus tours, led by scholars in the
Richard J. Doyle Leadership Program at Briar Cliff. Along the
way, the fifth-graders will learn the significance of several
campus landmarks and do some trick-or-treating at administrative
offices and academic departments.
“This is one way we can connect with students
who may not otherwise have an opportunity to visit a college
campus,” said Darrell Lofton, director of Multicultural and
Leadership Programs at Briar Cliff.
The Richard J. Doyle Leadership Scholarship
is a selective four-year program that involves scholarship
recipients in leadership education, training, community services
on and off campus, career development, leadership internships
and mentoring relations with faculty and administrators.
Briar Cliff University is a Catholic institution with an
enrollment of more than 1,150 students from 29 states and 11
other countries. Students are educated in the Franciscan
tradition of excellence in the liberal arts and career
preparation in an environment of care, compassion and service.
