Briar Cliff University Plans Fun-filled “Welcome Week”
Sioux City, Iowa - Briar Cliff University students will move
onto campus and start their new 2010-11 academic year on August
28. This marks the beginning of “Welcome Week,” a fun-filled BCU
tradition that kicks off with Charger Camp and includes an
exciting variety of both on- and off-campus events.
Students will experience a full slate of
activities from the day they arrive through the end of
September. Activities range from picnics and pool to athletic
events and ping-pong. In between, they’ll enjoy “GloFEST,” an
outdoor evening of glow-in-the-dark games as well as discounted
movies, tailgates and pizza parties.
Other established Welcome Week traditions
especially for freshmen include dinner with President and Jim
Wharton in their home and the Freshmen Food Drive which will
benefit the Food Bank of Siouxland. Students also will attend a
presentation by Patty Spady entitled “Death by Alcohol: The Sam
Spady Story.”
In addition, students will participate in
Fall Convocation and forums on how to succeed in college. Campus
resource fairs will provide students with information on jobs,
academics, recreational activities, volunteer projects and
service learning opportunities.
“A good beginning is essential to a
successful academic year,” said President Beverly Wharton. “And
Briar Cliff’s Welcome Week tradition ensures that each student
will have a solid academic start.”
