BCU Student to Present at National Research Conference
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Kallyn Buschkamp, a senior
math and chemistry major at Briar Cliff University, will be
presenting the results of his summer research at the
Mathematical Association of America and American Mathematical
Society (MAA-AMS) National Conference in New Orleans in January.
Buschkamp, of Cherokee, Iowa, and four
students from other colleges and universities were selected
based on their presentation at the Nebraska Research Experience
for Undergraduates (REU) in Applied Mathematics Mini-Conference
in July.
Using a mathematical life history model for
perennial plants, Buschkamp and his team studied the effects of
the consumption of plants and seeds by herbivores and determined
the optimal plant reproductive strategy for those plants.
The REU Conference, which was attended by
hundreds of college and university faculty and students from
around the U.S., was part of an eight-week summer research
program sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
