Briar Cliff Professor Publishes Book Review
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Richard L. Poole,
professor and department chairperson of theatre and speech
communication at Briar Cliff University, recently had a book
review published in the Summer 2010 issue of The Annals of
Iowa.
In his review of Encore: The
Renaissance of Wisconsin Opera Houses by Brian Doyle Leahy,
Poole writes, “Beautifully illustrated and impeccably
researched, Brian Leahy Doyle’s book catalogues in text and
images the history of Wisconsin Opera Houses. It also tells the
story of modern day restoration efforts, as the communities in
which these Opera Houses were built came together to save a
treasured part of their almost forgotten heritage.”
The Annals of Iowa
is a quarterly journal of history published by the State
Historical Society of Iowa.
Poole joined
Briar Cliff in 1978 and teaches acting, directing, theatre
history, voice and speech communication courses at the
University. He has
written and published extensively on theatre forms and venues in
the rural Midwest.
