Briar Cliff Professor Presents at Prairie Seminar
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Brian Hazlett, Ph.D.,
professor of biology and environmental science at Briar Cliff
University, recently presented “Plugging into the Power of
Place” at the Loess Hills Prairie Seminar in Onawa, Iowa.
In his presentation, Dr. Hazlett, who also
serves as director of the Center for Prairie Studies and
director the Environmental Science Program at Briar Cliff,
reviewed the importance of place-based education. He also
summarized accomplishments of the Center for Prairie Studies
this past inaugural year, which included sponsoring lectures,
providing course development grants, funding annual
scholarships, conducting prairie walks, supporting local prairie
preservation, among other projects.

The Loess Hills Prairie Seminar is
sponsored annually by Northwest Area Education Agency for
educators, students, park and conservation persons, community
leaders, and citizens.
