New BCU Program Prepares Theology
Majors to Teach in Catholic Schools
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University theology majors may
now participate in a BCU program that will prepare them to teach
religion classes in Catholic schools. In the new program, Briar
Cliff theology majors who take the core courses required for
education majors will qualify for certification as religion
teachers by the Diocese of Sioux City Office of Education.
“Many BCU theology majors plan to teach religion in a Catholic
school or a parish setting,” said Linda Harrington, Ph.D.,
assistant professor of theology at Briar Cliff. “This new
program focuses on preparing students for teaching while giving
them a solid foundation in theology. The certificate
demonstrates the unique qualifications of Briar Cliff theology
majors for teaching religion in Catholic school systems or
parish religious education programs.”
