Briar Cliff Professor Presents Paper, Performs Plays
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Richard L. Poole,
professor of theatre and speech communication and department
chairperson at Briar Cliff University, recently presented a
paper and performed in two plays at the Silver Anniversary
Theatre Seminar at the National Theatre Society in Mount
Pleasant, Iowa.
At the seminar, Poole, a Fulbright scholar,
presented his paper entitled “Tent Repertoire 1870-1942. Growth
and Decline within a Unique Midwest Theatre Context.” He also
performed a one-man show “Dr. Balthazar T. Archimedes Presents”
and appeared in the Tent Rep play “Hotel Absentminded.”
Poole joined
Briar Cliff in 1978 and teaches acting, directing, theatre
history, voice and speech communication courses at the
University. He has
written and published extensively on theatre forms and venues in
the rural Midwest.
