BCU Music Professor One of Five Worldwide Selected for Symposium

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Sean Burton, DMA, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Briar Cliff University, is one of only five people worldwide chosen to participate in the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s National Conductors’ Symposium, May 2-9, 2010. Selections were made through a competitive selection process.

At the symposium, Dr. Burton will engage in a weeklong residency in Vancouver, where he will work with the all-professional Vancouver Chamber Choir, under the tutelage of master teacher and choir conductor Jon Washburn. The Vancouver Chamber Choir is well-known as Canada’s outstanding professional vocal ensemble.

The experience will culminate with a performance on May 8, during which the Briar Cliff professor will conduct excerpts from J.S. Bach’s “St. John Passion” and Haydn’s “Creation” live in concert with the Vancouver Chamber Choir.

Dr. Burton joined the BCU music faculty in the fall of 2007 and has quickly established himself as a formidable presence in the Sioux City musical community, where he is also director of music at Grace United Methodist Church and founding artistic director of the Siouxland Choral Artists.

Enrollment at Briar Cliff University is over 1,100 students from 28 states. Students are educated in the Franciscan tradition of excellence in the liberal arts and career preparation in an environment of care, compassion and openness to all. For more information, please visit www.briarcliff.edu.
