Briar Cliff University Announces Presidential Scholars
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff
University announces the recipients of the full-tuition
Presidential Scholarships, the highest scholarships awarded to
first-year students by the University.
The 2010 BCU Presidential Scholars,
all of whom will graduate from high school this spring, are
Katelyn Baas, Lewis Central High School, daughter of Kenny and
Helen Baas, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Andrew Clasen, Samuel Clemens
High School, son of Randy and Alice Clasen, San Antonio, Texas;
Kariana Haas, Algona High School, daughter of Howard and Susan
Haas, Algona, Iowa; and Chris Karpuk, Bishop Heelan Catholic
High School, son of Fred and Beth Karpuk, Sioux City.
“Our Presidential Scholars are
exceptional individuals who will bring much to the Briar Cliff
campus,” said Sharisue Wilcoxon, vice president of enrollment
management at BCU. “We look forward to having these students
join our Briar Cliff community.”
Briar Cliff University Presidential
Scholarships are renewed annually for up to four years of study
as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.
The scholarships were announced
following a competitive application process and interviews with
University administrators. High school seniors who apply for
BCU’s Presidential Scholarships must have a cumulative GPA of
3.75 or better and an ACT score of 26 or higher. Award criteria
also include church, school and community leadership roles.
Enrollment at Briar Cliff University
is over 1,100 students from 28 states. Students are educated in
the Franciscan tradition of excellence in the liberal arts and
