BCU Raises Awareness, Funds for Breast Cancer Cure

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University is helping to raise awareness and funds to fight and find a cure for breast cancer, beginning with the “Memory Wall” in the Stark Student Center on campus from March 22 through March 24, 2010. Each day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the public is invited to honor their loved ones and friends who have been affected by cancer by posting their names and photos on the “Memory Wall,” located in the hallway behind the stage. Participants are encouraged not to post original photos since the photos will not be returned. Guest parking will be available in front of the Student Center. This free event is open to the public.

Briar Cliff employees are helping the cause by purchasing cancer awareness T-shirts and wristbands and wearing them to work on March 24. All proceeds from sale of T-shirt and wristband will be donated to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City. T-shirts and wristbands can be purchased on campus in BCU’s Student Development Office, ground floor, Alverno Hall.

Also on March 24, the Briar Cliff Charger softball team will wear pink jerseys in their games against Mayville State University at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the SYA recreation complex in Sioux City. Supporting Briar Cliff with these events are sponsors Avery Brothers, JOLLY TIME Popcorn, Wells Dairy, Inc., Hy-Vee, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“We are grateful to our sponsors, Briar Cliff students and employees for helping us raise awareness and funds, which are needed very much for a breast cancer cure,” said Floyd Webb, director of the multicultural programs at Briar Cliff. “This is an emotional cause for me, since my grandmother died of cancer. Her name and photo will be on the Memory Wall.” For more information, please email floyd.webb@briarcliff.edu.
