BCU Professor Presents at National Theatre Conference
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Richard Poole, MFA,
chairperson and professor of theatre and speech communication at
Briar Cliff University, recently presented a paper at the 31st
Annual Mid-America Theatre Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
Poole’s paper, titled “Midwest American
Rural Landscapes and the Creation of a Unique Theatre Culture,”
dealt with rural culture and the theatre forms it supported from
1870 to 1940. Also at the conference, he acted in a play titled
“Public Address System.”
A Fulbright Scholar, Poole has published
and presented numerous papers on Midwest rural theatre. He
co-authored the book The
Opera Houses of Iowa, Iowa State Press, with Dr. George
Glenn.
