BCU Professor’s Article on Emily Dickinson Published
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Maria O’Malley,
Ph.D., assistant professor of English at Briar Cliff University,
recently had a research article titled “Dickinson’s
Liberatory Poetics” published in
The Emily Dickinson
Journal, Johns Hopkins University Press.
Dr. O’Malley’s
research examines the ways Dickinson’s poetry rejuvenates our
understanding of liberation through tropes of violence.
The article draws upon the rich history of poetics theory
ranging from William Blake to contemporary language poets. In
doing so, she frames an argument that Dickinson’s poetry
interrogates the notion that poetry can serve as a means of
liberation.
Dr. O’Malley came to Briar Cliff
University in 2008 from the University of Colorado at Boulder,
where she earned a Ph.D. in English.
