Briar Cliff University Offers HR Certification Prep Course

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University will offer an HR certification preparatory course to assist human resource management professionals in successfully completing the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification exam.

The course will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning March 3 to May 5, 2010 in Heelan Hall on the Briar Cliff Campus. Registration for the course is open now through Feb. 23 by calling 279-5417. Enrollment is limited.

Course instructors will be Joy Malone, MAHRM, human resource management professional at Great West Casualty in South Sioux City, Neb., and Mark Rossi, J.D., associate professor of business administration at Briar Cliff.

In addition to helping professionals prepare for the SHRM certification examination, the Briar Cliff course will cover management practices; staffing; compensation and benefits; general employment practices; human resource development; employee and labor relations; and health, safety and security.

“SHRM certification is an essential tool for maintaining high professional standards,” said Barb Redmond, senior professional in human resource management and assistant professor of business administration at BCU.  “Many employers offer tuition reimbursement for the SHRM preparation course, which is offered for three hours of credit,” Redmond added.

The national exam for SHRM certification is administered from May 1 to June 30 and Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2010  at established test centers in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
