BCU to Host Author Brian E. Fogarty
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dr. Brian E. Fogarty will present a
lecture entitled “Fascism, Real and Imagined, in American
Politics” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28 in Meis Recital Hall
in Heelan Hall on the Briar Cliff University campus. This free
public event is sponsored by BCU’s Department of English and
Writing, Department of History and Political Science and
Department of Sociology.
In his presentation, Dr. Fogarty will address the cries of
"fascism" among the anti-statist elements of American politics.
His presentation will include lecture and reading of excerpts
from his latest book,
Fascism: Why Not Here, which draws parallels between German
culture of the early twentieth century and contemporary American
culture.
Dr. Fogarty is professor of sociology at
St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn. He is the author of
War, Peace, and the Social
Order and has written for a variety of
publications, including the
Aspen Institute Quarterly,
Peace and Change and the
Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Formerly a professor in the Department of Sociology at Briar
Cliff, the author lives with his wife, Cheryl, in St. Paul.
