Briar Cliff Students Create Snow, Ice Sculptures for Winter Fest

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A snow and ice sculpture competition will be one of the many highlights of Briar Cliff University’s annual Winter Fest celebration, Jan. 11 through Saturday, Jan. 16. In the competition, BCU students will put their creativity to the test to form snow and ice sculptures on Heffernan Mall. Judging will take place on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Other Winter Fest highlights include a weeklong “Where’s Waldo” competition and “Next Cliff Star,” a takeoff on the reality TV show “America’s Got Talent,” on Friday, Jan. 15.

Winter will warm up when the BCU Chargers and the Mount Marty College Lancers basketball teams face off at home on Wednesday, Jan. 13. The women play at 6 p.m., while the men play at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 16, the Chargers take on the Warriors of Midland Lutheran College in another home basketball contest. The women’s game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m. All games will be played on campus at the Newman Flanagan Center.

Between games, alumni and basketball season ticketholders are invited to enjoy refreshments and appetizers in the Hall of Champions on the second floor of the Newman Flanagan Center. During halftime at the men’s game, Briar Cliff’s Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place.

Immediately following the men’s game, alumni, season ticket holders and the BCU community are invited to attend a reception and bid in the Briar Cliff Athletic Association Benefit Silent Auction in the Stark Student Center.  The festivities come to a close with the “Winter Fest Dance” for students on Saturday evening.
