BCU SIFE Announces SnackWise Finalists
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) have named three area high
schools as finalists in the 5th Annual SnackWise
Competition co-sponsored by Briar Cliff’s SIFE team and JOLLY
TIME.
This year’s finalists and their products are
North High School, Sioux City, “Cinna Shazam,” a cinnamon sugar
popcorn creation with almond bark, pretzels and other
ingredients; Ponca Public High School, Ponca, Neb., “Crazy Good
Corn,” a popcorn snack with yogurt-covered raisins, peanuts,
honey and peanut butter; and Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux
City, “Poppin’ Monkey Cones,” a mini-cone filled with banana
chips, chocolate and colorful sprinkles.
SnackWise, a product development and
marketing plan creation contest, challenges regional high school
students to think entrepreneurially by developing and marketing
healthy popcorn-based snacks. Finalists were judged on the
snack’s nutrition, creativity, attractiveness, taste, marketing
materials and profit statement.
Products will be on sale from 1 p.m. to 3
p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, in the Center Court at Southern Hills Mall
in Sioux City. The public is invited to visit the sales booths
and support the high school teams. First, second and third place
will be based on team profits during the two-hour selling
period.
In addition to their profits, first place
will win a $100 cash prize, a JOLLY TIME prize pack for each
member and a personalized tour of the JOLLY TIME facilities in
Sioux City. Second place and third place will receive $50 cash
prizes and JOLLY TIME prize packs.
