The Briar Cliff Review Art Exhibit Opens at Art Center
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A diverse collection of
artwork and photography featured in the 2009 edition of The
Briar Cliff Review, Briar Cliff University’s award-winning
literary magazine, will be on exhibit at the Sioux City Art
Center, 225 Nebraska Street, beginning Saturday, March 7 through
Sunday, April 19, 2009.
On Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m., there will
be a reading of selected works from this year’s edition with a
reception at 8 p.m. The art exhibit will be open for viewing
prior to the reading and during regular hours at the Sioux City
Art Center.
“The Art Center has had a long-time
connection with The Briar Cliff Review,” said Al
Harris-Fernandez, director of the Sioux City Art Center. “Over
the years, we have hosted a number of exhibitions and readings
for The Review. We are very pleased to take that
collaboration to a new level by featuring an exhibition of the
artwork in one of our third-floor galleries.”
Among the wide variety of artwork on exhibit
will be the 2009 issue cover art “Icon (Constantinople)” by
Steve Joy, whose artwork has been exhibited in galleries in
Spain, France, Switzerland, Norway and New York City. Also on
display will be Dan Howard’s “Out of the World: VIII (Jupiter’s
Moon IO)” and “Out of the World: IX (Planet Mars)”; Larry Root’s
“Rapture” and “Sumi Sunrise”; Diane Lounsberry-Williams’ “LeStanza
Dipinti”; and Terri Parish McGaffin’s “South Main”; and Shannon
Sargent’s “Right and Wrong.”
“An enormous amount of credit to this fine
exhibit goes to our art editors for The Review Jeff
Baldus and Karen Chesterman,” said Tricia Currans-Sheehan,
editor of The Briar Cliff Review. “Jeff and Karen travel
to art shows and galleries throughout the Midwest in search of
art for the magazine.”
Among the many photographs in the exhibit
will be “Holland Harbor Lighthouse” by Michael Crowley; “Crown
Fountain” by Marena Fritzler; “Red Covered Bridges” by Betsy
Van’t Hul; “A Blizzard of Snows” by Randall D. Williams; “Left
Unmade” by Alan Parker Scheffer; and “Dutchmen’s Britches” by
