Damon Garners Writing Awards
SIOUX CITY, Iowa –Paula Damon, director of marketing and
communications at Briar Cliff University, garnered two second
place awards and one third-place award in the 2008 South Dakota
Press Women Communications Contest.
Winning entries in the competition were
selected from Damon’s weekly column, “My Story Your Story.”
Judges evaluated her work in three categories: informational,
general and humorous. Taking Second Place in the
“Informational” category were Damon’s entries entitled “Junk
mail interrupts isolation, announces existence” and “Learning to
play the piano presents a new brand of happiness.” In
the “General” category, her works “Side effects of membership to
the club” and “On being backwards compatible - a love story”
also earned Second Place. Damon received Third Place honors for
her “Humorous” selections “Ravenous intruders wreak havoc,
traumatize family” and “Super blower mulching vacuum avenges
leaf rake."
Previously, Damon’s works placed first in
communications contests for National Federation of Press Women
and Iowa Press Women and second place in South Dakota Press
Women Communications Contests.
A weekly columnist for the
Vermillion Plain Talk,
Damon holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a
master’s degree in English from The University of South Dakota.
