Briar Cliff Professor Stephen Brown Publishes Book
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University’s
Stephen Brown, Ph.D., assistant professor and chairperson of
BCU’s Department of Theology and Philosophy, had a book
published in June by Continuum Press, a noted source for
academic and scholarly works.
In his book, entitled
Moral Virtue and Nature: A
Defense of Ethical Naturalism, Dr. Brown presents a
modernized version of the ethical theory of the ancient Greek
philosopher Aristotle. “Since all humans are members of the same
biological species, we should be able to arrive at a rational
consensus about what makes a good human being, regardless of our
religious and cultural differences,” he argues in the book.
Dr. Brown, who joined Briar Cliff in 2003,
earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of
Texas. He holds a master’s degree and doctorate of philosophy
degree from the University of Oklahoma.
