BCU Invites Public to Student Conductors’ Recital
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff
University invites the public to attend the Student Conductors’
Recital at 7:30 p.m. on May 8 in Our Lady of Grace Chapel on
campus.
The Student Conductors’ Recital will
feature Briar Cliff University music majors conducting a program
of varied choral works with BCU’s Cliff Singers and Chamber
Choir. The student conductors for this event are Katie
Lehmann from Sioux City; Justin Ranek from Council Bluffs, Iowa;
Christina Simons from Larchwood, Iowa; and Ellen Osborn from
Hinton, Iowa.
The recital is a culminating project
in which students directly apply concepts learned in Conducting
I, Conducting II and Choral Procedures courses at Briar Cliff
University. “The fact that we offer students the opportunity to
conduct an entire recital program with our own choral ensembles
is extremely unique not only among institutions of higher
education in Northwest Iowa, but throughout the entire country,”
commented Dr. Sean Burton, Assistant Professor of Music and
Director of Choral Activities at BCU.
The recital is
free and open to the public.
