Study Abroad

Briar Cliff faculty and staff believe that international experiences provide some of the most valuable educational opportunities that students can encounter.

The university has sponsored a variety of study-abroad experiences over the years. Recent excursions have included China, England, Guatemala, Ireland, and Italy. In addition, students who wish to incorporate other international study opportunities into their college careers may consult with their advisors or the Career Development Center staff to arrange enrollment in classes at foreign universities.

Chicago Semester

Chicago Semester is an off-campus program that offers qualified (2.5 or higher GPA required) juniors and seniors of any major the distinct opportunity to spend a term earning credit living, studying and working in the "Windy City." Rooted in the Christian faith, the program challenges students to integrate their personaland public lives through 32-hour-per-week internships, academic seminars, and hands-on professional experience.

No matter your major, Chicago Semester connects students with agencies and organizations that provide stimulating work settings and valuable career experiences. Twice each year, a Chicago Semester recruiter visits the Briar Cliff campus to speak with students. For application information, contact the Career Development Center office and visit the Chicago Semester website.

Guatemala Trip

Study another culture firsthand by traveling with the Briar Cliff social department to Guatemala, where students take a crash course in Spanish, travel to Lake Atitlan and Chicicastenango, shop at Guatemala's largest "mercado," build a house in three days for a needy family, care for malnourished children and serve food to the homeless.
