The Honors Program at Briar Cliff is not about getting high-achieving students to do more work, read more books, write more papers, and take more courses.  It is about enhancing the educational experience of exceptional students through community-building activities and challenging and exciting academic programming.  We emphasize the quality of the experience over the quantity of the workload.

We create an Honors Program community on campus through honors-only courses and social activities like barbeques, going to the theatre, and trivia contests.  We also place great importance on our role as leaders in the larger community and complete service projects on campus and around Siouxland.

Honors students take at least six honors-only courses while at Briar Cliff in which professors use innovative teaching strategies that allow the students to explore the course subject in great detail.  Many of the honors-only courses fulfill general education requirements, and because they tend to be small, the courses allow for very personalized attention from BCU faculty.  Honors students also have the option of participating in online/hybrid summer courses and unique travel experiences.

I invite you to read through the material on our website to learn more about our Honors Program.  Ultimately, I hope that you will choose to accept the challenge and become a member of the Honors Program community at Briar Cliff.

Peace,
Paul Olson, Ph.D.
