Briar Cliff ’s
Franciscan heritage
includes an emphasis on
a respect for and
stewardship of the
natural world. Finding
solutions to minimize
adverse impacts by
humans on our
environment requires an
interdisciplinary
approach. Responsible
environmentalists
desiring to solve
problems such as
pollution, habitat
destruction, and the
loss of biological
diversity must be fluent
in both the natural
sciences (including
biology, chemistry,
earth science) and
socially relevant
disciplines (such as
sociology and political
science). Students
majoring in
Environmental Science
will choose an emphasis
in either Biology or
Chemistry. Students will
have the opportunity to
pursue internships and
to participate in
extended field trips
that provide
opportunities for
pursuing practical
applications of
classroom instruction.
