Sigma Theta Tau
Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University. Since that time, the National Nursing Honor Society has grown to over 400 chapters worldwide, with over 275,000 members in more than 90 countries. The vision of Sigma Theta Tau International is to create a global community of nurses who lead in the use of scholarship, knowledge, and technology to improve the health of the world's people.
In 1986, the Briar Cliff University Department of Nursing charted Theta Gamma, the 193rd Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. In 2008, Theta Gamma became a chapter-at-large with Morningside College.
Local meetings are held during the year to encourage nurses to show their scholarship and research with colleagues. Every year, Theta Gammer chapter sends representatives to regional and national Sigma Theta Tau meetings.
