Nursing Scholarships

In addition to the full range of financial aid services and support provided by Briar Cliff University, the following scholarships are also available to nursing students:

United Airlines Flight Crew (United 232) Scholarship: Awarded annually to students from Sioux City pursuing an education which will qualify them in whole or in part, for a career in emergency rescue nursing, medical care, counseling, social work, ministry, or law enforcement. This scholarship fund was established by the flight crew of United 232 in appreciation of Siouxland’s valiant rescue and recovery efforts during the aftermath of the United Airlines Flight 232 incident on July 19, 1989.

Dr. Lee Jr. and Maxine Meis Endowed Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to nursing students, with first preference to a Bishop Heelan High School graduate.

Dorothy Trexler Meis Endowed Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to students pursuing a degree in nursing.

Dr. Donald Rodawig Sr. Memorial Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to students pursuing a degree in nursing.

Patricia Terhaar Endowed Scholarship: Awarded to students pursuing a health career. Second preference will be given to students pursing service-related ministries.

Sr. Catherine Weisensel Endowed Nursing Scholarship: Awarded to registered nurses resuming their education to achieve a BSN degree, or to juniors or seniors in the Briar Cliff BSN program to enable them to continue with a BSN degree.

Welte Family Endowed Scholarship: Awarded with first preference to a nursing student; second preference to a member of the women's basketball team; third preference to a Heelan graduate; fourth preference to a student majoring in Art or Accounting; fifth preference to a member of the women's golf team.

Mercy Auxiliary Scholarship:The Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship was established in 2007 by the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary to assist Siouxland area college/university juniors that are enrolled in a four-year undergraduate B.S.N. program to pursue a career in nursing.
