Christmas at the Orpheum
For centuries, Christmas has been the inspiration for a wealth of musical composition, vocal and instrumental, sacred and secular. It is in this spirit that Briar Cliff University offers Christmas at the Orpheum, a program of uplifting seasonal music performed by hundreds of the Siouxland Community’s finest musicians.
Led by the distinguished talents of the Briar Cliff University Singers and Members of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, this year's program will feature the angelic tones of soprano soloist Shannon Salyards, the talents of Dr. Jeremy Owens showcased on The Mighty Wurlitzer, and two additional organizations with close ties to our Siouxland community – the Siouxland Choral Artists and Western Iowa Tech Community College Concert Choir.
The theme of this year's program, "Behold, the Joyful Birth," reflects the joy of Christmas expressed through music that is both exuberant and reflective. During the concert, you may be moved to laughter or tears and surely your heart will be warmed at one moment or another, responses germane to our collective human condition. Certainly one of our goals is to entertain, but the larger theme at work is one of shared inspiration.
