ENGL 114 - Multicultural Plays and Films

One way to discover the rich cultural diversity of the Americas is to travel through its plays and films.  Through a variety of texts, students will gain a greater appreciation the Western hemisphere’s many peoples, following a young emigrant from Guatemala as he searches for a better life in the United States, experiencing the brutal but effective indoctrination of a Peruvian Shining Path guerilla camp, and celebrating the musical festivities of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval.  Students will investigate differences and commonalities among different cultures’ values and worldviews.
